Ambassador Youssef: Greek-Egyptian relations are strategic

Egyptian Ambassador to Greece Omar Youssef said at a briefing on Thursday that relations between Athens and Cairo are strategic and supported by their leaders.

The Egyptian diplomat welcomed Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ planned participation in the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27 Climate Change Conference) that will be hosted in Sharm El Sheikh on November 6-18.

Youssef said he welcomes the regular consultations and cooperation between both sides through bilateral and trilateral meetings, the last of which was Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias’ meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry last month.

This stable cooperation has allowed Athens and Cairo to take the necessary steps towards the realisation of projects such as the two countries' electricity interconnection, or the draft agreement to regulate the seasonal hiring's of Egyptian agricultural workers in Greece.

The two countries have the potential to expand their cooperation in other fields, including in the cultural, commercial and tourism domains, he added.

Here, the ambassador noted that it is the role of the relevant stakeholders to take the necessary steps to this end, including media outlets. Building the necessary partnerships to ensure that the adequate information is provided to the Greek audience is key to that effect, he stressed.

This type of news should not only cover regular political and economic issues, but it should also expand to convey to Greek and European audiences Egypt's various developments and megaprojects, Youssef highlighted.

He highlighted the New Administrative Capital, the economic zone and logistic centre in Suez Canal, the Grand Egyptian Museum and many other aspects of the New Republic of Egypt as examples.
