Due to an injury, she sustained in the final days before the competition, Marinakou admitted that she had not anticipated performing this well. She was thrilled to break her own-year-old record of 34:32 and credited the fans for giving her a morale boost.
“They motivated me to run even faster. And finishing a race in this Stadium feels unique. I’ve very happy, this was a fantastic race.”
As a part of this weekend’s 39th Authentic Marathon activities, the race was held in Panathenaic Stadium.
Marinakou, a Panathinaikos athlete, was followed by Ismini Panagiotopoulou (OKA Kavala) with 35:00, while Irini Tsoupaki, of GS Amarousiou, came third with 35:16.
