Greece is set to open a Greek National Tourism Office (EOT) in Melbourne Australia according to Regional Governor of Attica George Patoulis, who is currently in Melbourne, after his communication with the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias.

It has been a request of the Australian Greek diaspora for 8 years and now with the announcement by Mr. Patoulis it is becoming a reality, said the president of the Greek Community of Melbourne Bill Papastergiadis, adding that he hopes EOT will be housed in the GCM Cultural Centre of Melbourne.

Mr Papastergiadis noted that Australian tourists prefer Greece for their holidays and stay for extended periods.

"We are honoured that such an office is opening in Melbourne, especially when there is no other EOT office in another city in Australia," said Mr. Papastergiadis.

Earlier this year Mr Papastergiadis, had meetings  the Greek Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms Sofia Zacharakis, and the Secretary General for Tourism Policy, Ms Olympia Anastasopoulou, where the issue was also raised.
