The Greek island of Skopelos, also known as Mamma Mia’s island was voted the best destination in the world, beating the likes of Bali, Maldives, Seychelles and Barbados islands, at the recent international tourism exhibition World Travel Market (WTM) which proposes the best island destinations in the world for 2023.

The voting results were the calculation of famous travel blogger Marta Ostoya who named Skopelos her number one destination choice after combining new travel trends of the post-Covid era with the destinations presented at the World Travel Market.

Ostoya – who had visited Skopelos at the invitation of the municipality – says that with “the reputation of the greenest island in Greece, Skopelos inspires awe with its harmonious natural color palette but also with the abundance of quality options from hiking and cycling to diving, Mamma Mia tours, sea excursions to the pirates’ lairs and cooking of traditional cheese pie”.

It is also noted that an original collaboration between the Municipality of Skopelos and the culinary musical dance show Mamma Mia The Party in London was recently completed. “The messages we received at the WTM exhibition are encouraging. Despite the international crisis, interest in Skopelos remains high from tour operators and smaller agencies. All this time we have invested in themed tourist products that fascinate the traveling public and the international media, said the president of the municipality’s Tourism Committee, Ioanna Efstathiou.
