The Christmas tree organised by the Municipality of Athens was placed in the centre of Syntagma Square for this year’s festivities.

The municipality’s crews are working feverishly and have already placed the fir tree on a special reinforced concrete base since it weighs six tons. Crews also cut down some branches to make the star more visible.

This year the tree is two metres higher than last year, while 6,000 lanterns are expected to be placed on it.
