Garbage has started to form mountains in the municipality of Thessaloniki due to the workers' strike. The mobilisations is expected to continue until Friday.

Since last Sunday, when the employees began to strike from cleaning, until today it is estimated that around 1200-1400 tons of waste have accumulated on the streets of the city.

According to the Deputy Mayor for Cleanliness and Recycling of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Kostas Iakovou, 16 of the 32 garbage trucks went out for collections this morning.

"They need time to collect the garbage in a city that was left without collection for three days," he told AMNA.

Throughout Tuesday, around 20 garbage trucks were out on the streets to empty the underground bins and collect the garbage from the hospitals and street markets.
