It appears that the feud between Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas has the pair appear to be playing doubles together at the 2022 Diriyah Tennis Cup, just a few months after their highly publicised conflict at the Wimbledon.
During their third round match at Wimbledon, Tsitsipas hit a ball into the crowd, which led to a heated exchange between the two players that followed after the match. Kyrgios demanded disqualification and despite the tension on the court, the Greek-Australian ultimately emerged victorious.
Now, they will meet on the same side of the court thanks to rules of an exhibition event that they both take part at. Kyrgios and Tsitsipas could meet in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Diriyah Tennis Cup, but since the Greek-Australian lost already in the first round, he didn't make the meeting possible.
Tsitsipas then also lost and since players that lose in the first two rounds get drawn into the doubles draw, there was a chance that the two will play together and it happened. In the semifinal match, they will meet Hubert Hurkacz and Dominic Stricker.
Despite the Australian stating right after the match that he approaches life on and off the court differently, Tsitsipas brought up the topic a few more times after the incident. Following their meeting in the All England Club, Kyrgios said:
"He's a hell of a player. He was getting frustrated at times, it's a frustrating sport, that's for sure. I got ultimate respect for him. Whatever happens on the court, stays on the court. I love him. I'm close to his brothers."
It will be interesting to see how Kyrgios and Tsitsipas fare as a doubles team at the Diriyah Tennis Cup.
Their previous conflict has garnered a lot of attention and many fans will be watching closely to see if they can put their differences aside and focus on the game. Regardless of the outcome, their participation in the doubles draw adds an exciting new element to the tournament.
