Qatar National Day was celebrated by the country's embassy at an event held in a central Athens hotel on Thursday.
Under the maxim "Unity is our strength", Ambassador of Qatar to Greece Waleed bin Mohammed Al-Emadi expressed his country's interest in deepening bilateral relations between Greece and Qatar, and spoke of the support both countries provide to each other in international fora.
The significance of the FIFA World Cup being held in Qatar was also mentioned by the ambassador, who said it highlighted the country’s economic and administrative capabilities, and the country's achievements overall.
Representing the Greek government at the event were the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy & Openness Kostas Fragogiannis, with main opposition party SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance being represented by Vagelis Kalpadakis, who is the diplomatic consultant of party leader Alexis Tsipras.
Deputy Culture & Sports Minister Lefteris Avgerakis also attended, as did former EU Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos.
