Crete: The Pakistani man who punched and attempted to rape a woman was arrested

The 33-year-old Pakistani, who is accused of punching and attempting to rape a 50-year-old woman in Ierapetra in Crete, was arrested on Tuesday night.

In the afternoon, the 33-year-old called the 50-year-old farmer several times on her cell phone, asking her to meet her alone to apologise for what he did to her, justifying his act by saying that he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, according to Nea Kriti.

The 50-year-old was horrified and she refused to meet him at first, but then after talking to her family and the Ierapetra Security Department, she responded positively by making an appointment with him at a small café.

He did not appear initially, apparently because he wanted to check if the place had police. The Pakistani then made a second appointment in an open parking lot, where he one again did not show up.

Then she took the initiative to call him on his cell phone and ask him to hurry because she had work. He counter-suggested that they meet at a gas station café.

Throughout their conversations, 50-year-old Katerina Perakis was instructed by the police to keep him calm so that he would not realise that there was surveillance.

When he showed up for the third appointment at the gas station café, instead of her waiting with her husband, Ierapetra police arrested him.

The 33-year-old had completely changed his features - he had a haircut, shaved his beard and changed his clothes, while he had hidden the moped he had used to escape from the scene of the attack.
