Tourism for Athens ceases to be exclusively a summer affair. Tourists who arrive every year in the Greek capital are staying for more and more days and are now dynamically putting the city on the map of European city break destinations throughout the year.

The "Stay in Athens" initiative by Mastercard and the Municipality of Athens, for the 3rd consecutive year, played its own important role in the effort to promote tourism outside the summer tourist season.

This year, for the first time, AEGEAN also participated in the initiative, with the three partners implementing a very successful program that contributed decisively to the expansion of the tourist season of the Greek capital.

For 2022, the perfectly organised "Stay in Athens" was aimed at tourists from the countries of Germany and Austria, who wish to discover the history and variety of experiences that Greece's biggest city can offer to visitors.

It is a fact that the Greek capital is usually an intermediate destination for travelers in our country, before going to the islands. The tourist market is making efforts to strengthen the profile of Athens as an autonomous destination, as are other European capitals.

"Stay in Athens", aiming to strengthen these efforts, offered special privileges to Mastercard holders who booked their trip through the platform www.stay-in-athens.gr platform from October 5th to November 27th.

In particular, the beneficiaries had the opportunity to enjoy preferential accommodation prices in selected hotels in the city and a 30% discount on the price of AEGEAN air tickets, as well as some unique cultural experiences, specially designed for the program participants.

An illustrative example is the thematic tour "In touch with the Cycladic Culture" organised in collaboration with the Cycladic Museum of Athens for the visitors of 2022.
