Eurobarometer: Albanians believe Greeks discriminate them the most

Although 66.5% of Albanians believe that Greeks discriminate them the most, many of Greece's neighbours consider the country to be the ones with whom they have the most similarities.

The above "paradox" was highlighted in the Barometer conducted by Euronews Albania.

More specifically, to the question of which nation they think they are most similar with, 45.4% of Albanian respondents answered Greeks. The second most popular answer, with 34.9%, was the Italians who, in terms of discrimination, represent only 3.5%.

The list of peoples with whom Albanians believe they have the most similarities continues with Germans at 9.6%, Austrians at 2.9%, Spanish at 2.2%, English at 1.8%, Swiss with 0.9%, Belgians with 0.8% and Dutch and Scandinavians with 0.2%.

Regarding Albania's European perspective, there is a significant increase in their optimism that they are on the right track to become EU members within the next five years. In particular, while in 2021 only 16.4% of Albanians believed this, in 2022 the corresponding percentage jumped to 35.9%.

The percentage of Albanians who believe that their country will join the EU either within the next 10 years has also increased (from 29.3% in 2021 to 32.2%) and the percentage of those who believe that it will take more time to join has decreased. from 15 years (from 14.1% in 2021 to 9.5% in 2022).

According to the poll results, Albanians are pro-European, with 95.9% supporting the country's EU membership, while only 0.5% reject it.

For 95.7% of Albanians, EU membership is very important, while for only 0.4% it is not important.
