Greece's Santa Run Chania 2022

The great feast of love and giving of Christmas, the “Santa Run Chania 2022″, took place today in the town of Chania, Crete

The Santa Run started today (26.12.2022) at noon in Chania, with a gathering of Santa’s sacks at the Mediterranean Architecture Center as well as festive activities with dance and songs.

Later, the sacks were placed next to the big Christmas tree of the Municipality, in the square at Giali Mosque, from where they will start their journey for the children of the city.

At the same time the municipality will offer a 15 euros donation that will be given to the various institutions of the city.

The festive scene was completed by Santa on a jet ski, an antique car decorated with a large Santa hat as well as the two flying Santas flying a glider over the old port of the city.

“It’s another great celebration of the city. A celebration first of all of volunteerism and solidarity”, said the mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis.

He also referred to this year’s Santa Run, saying that “it is an attempt to highlight the beauties of our city, as well as the willingness, which the people of Chania have shown many times in the past, to offer”.

The vice-mayor of Culture and president of Santa Run, Yiannis Giannakakis, spoke at the event, specifically pointing out how the Santa Run “makes Chania red” and the people of Chania, with their love, support the city’s associations.

“In a way very different from the past, but which combines what we experienced during the quarantine period, the event this year takes on a new shape and color, with the same purpose as always, the offer”, said the vice mayor of Chania.

Santa Run 2022 concludes with a musical event in the courtyard of the Experimental High School of Chania, in the center of the city.
