The main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance has blasted Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for "profiteering" and said that Greece is registering negative records.

"Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Mitsotakis policy must be defeated," SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesperson Nasos Iliopoulos said on Wednesday in an interview with OPEN TV.

"That is why we are fighting for a progressive government that will put an end to the injustice of profiteering, increase incomes in a fair way, support pensioners and regulate private debt," the spokesperson stressed.

"Greece constantly registers negative records. The current wholesale electricity price in Greece is at 239 euros compared to 50 euros in France, Belgium and Germany,"Iliopolis continued.

"Greece has the most expensive gasoline, and even after the subsidies it is the third most expensive country in energy in relation to the income," he underlined.

"The Mitsotakis government has given 8 billion euros to the providers! Who did he get this money from? The citizens. It is the same case with the additional 4 billion euros in VAT revenue," the SYRIZA representative added.

"This amount did not arise because people consume more. On the contrary, consumption has been decreasing. We consume less, we pay more," the spokesperson said.

Iliopoulos pointed out: "Another model is needed that will not subsidize profiteering in energy, but will be based on a public PPC. We are the only country that, in the midst of an energy crisis, privatised its basic tool."
