The 115th Fighter Wing Base of the Air Force in Chania was visited by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The Greek Prime Minister inspected the F-16 fighter jets, including the recently upgraded VIPER’s, while at the same time being informed about the mission, organisation and readiness of the Combat Wing, the upgrading of the aircraft and the overall strengthening of the Armed Forces.
“It is an important upgrade for the Air Force, a very important program which, in combination with the other investments we have made, I think gives us a long-term confidence that we have strengthened our deterrent capability to such an extent that we do not feel a threat from no one,” Mitsotakis said.

The Prime Minister made a special mention to the pilots, but also to all the personnel who operate the aircraft.
“And of course I should emphasise the fact that it is not only the aircraft but also the operators and technicians who keep them in the air. And that is why I insist that as much as we support the infrastructure from the Greek taxpayer’s deficit, we can support the people as much,” he said.
“I think you know it well,” Mitsotakis added.
Afterwards, he visited 343 Squadron, where the pilots welcomed him and offered him souvenirs. Mitsotakis spoke with the staff and exchanged wishes for the new year, thanking them for the valuable services they offer.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by his Chief of the General Air Staff, Vice Admiral Themistocles Bourolias.
