The City of Athens is getting ready for the New Year’s Eve with a countdown spectacle at Syntagma Square and parties in the neighborhood of Thiseio and the Varvakeio meat market.

Meanwhile, a countdown party will be held in the neighborhood of Thiseio, at the foot of the Acropolis, featuring live music, DJ sets and other performances.

Acclaimed tenor Marios Frangoulis and Greek -French singer Giorgos Perris accompanied by a 10-member Symphonic Orchestra will welcome 2023 together with thousands of Athenians and visitors at Syntagma Square.

The program will start at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2022.

A few minutes before midnight, Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, will take the stage and will start the countdown to the arrival of the New Year. the event will be accompanied by fireworks.

The countdown will be broadcast live on state broadcaster ERT 1 as every year.

The party will continue with high energy dance cover band of Bejeezus that will take over with pop, swing, latin and rock ‘n’ roll rhythms for non-stop dancing.

In the area of the meat market of Varvakeio DJs will launch an open party for everyone that will last until the early hours of the morning.

Meanwhile, a countdown party will be held in the neighborhood of Thiseio, at the foot of the Acropolis, featuring live music, DJ sets and other performances.

All events of the City of Athens are free of charge.

A stunning New Year fireworks spectacle and a dance party are also prepared at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on the southern coast of Athens.
