Over 4,000 women diagnosed with early breast cancer through ‘Fofi Gennimata’ program, says Mitsotakis

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Tuesday that over 4,000 Greek women have been diagnosed with breast cancer early enough to receive treatment through the ‘Fofi Gennimata’ free mammogram program,

“More than 4,000 women have been diagnosed early and are currently undergoing treatment through the Fofi Gennimata program. For these women, this appointment may have saved their lives. It’s an appointment you shouldn’t miss,” Mitsotakis stressed in a tweet.

Financed by the EU Recovery Fund, this program of presymptomatic screenings for breast cancer was introduced in June 2022, and is Greece’s first mass preventative program for this type of cancer.

It was named after the late PASOK-KINAL leader Fofi Gennimata, who died of cancer in 2021, and who had invested tremendous time and effort to raise awareness about the importance of presymptomatic screening.
