In the presence of the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, who was accompanied by one of his children, and the Deputy Minister of Education, Angelos Syrigos, the Great Blessing Of Water on Epiphany was held in the centre of Athens.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Holy Church of Saint Dionysius the Areopagite in Kolonaki, which was attended by dozens of believers.
After the end of the service, priests and believers headed on foot to Dexameni, where traditionally the throwing of the Cross for Epiphany takes place.
