Former King Constantine in ICU after an acute stroke

Former King Constantine II is being treated in a critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hygeia Hospital in Athens.

The 82-year-old former monarch, according to Proto Thema, suffered an acute stroke while he was at his home in Athens and was rushed to the ICU of Hygeia.

In recent years he has been facing serious health problems, having previously suffered a stroke and in 2021 pulmonary edema due to aspiration. He had recently been hospitalised due to a COVID-19 infection, while he also faces mobility problems.

It is recalled that the last time the former king appeared in public was on October 19, 2022, where, as reported by Parapolitics, he was spotted with his wife, Anna Maria, and his sisters, the former Queen of Spain, Sofia, and Irene.

The family of the former king was leaving a well-known shop in Athens centre where he had had lunch just before. The former king, in the wheelchair, with nasal catheters, necessary for oxygen therapy, spoke calmly and steadily to his relatives.

All of them, in a quiet corner of a café-restaurant, dressed simply and smartly, without attracting the eyes of those who happened to be in the center at that time.

They had lunch and left. Of course, while crossing the Academy, a couple of tourists recognised Sofia and, excited, ran towards her in order to greet her and her relatives. Similarly, a Greek, also recognised the former king.
