Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia opens new English-speaking parish in Adelaide

St. Sophrony

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop of Australia, the Archdiocesan District of Adelaide will celebrate another major milestone with the inauguration of a new parish, with a mission specifically aimed at bringing English speakers to the Faith.

The Parish will be fittingly dedicated to the recently-canonised St Sophrony of Essex – a modern western saint. By the providence of God, an opportunity has arisen to utilise a historic church in Adelaide’s northeast (14 North St, Hectorville), which will form the base for the new parish.

The inaugural Divine Liturgy will be a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with Matins, and will be held on Sunday 15th of January 2023 from 8:00am to 10:30am, presided by the local Archepiscopal Vicar His Grace Bishop Silouan of Sinope, and assisted by Fr Daniel Bradshaw – current principal of St Spyridon College Unley and himself an English-speaking convert to Orthodoxy. The service will be followed by morning tea and coffee.

May God bless this initiative to bring the richness of our Orthodox Faith to the wider community of the country in which we are blessed to live.
