Keanu Reeves

Police in Heraklion are investigating an incredible online fraud case from 2021 that involves a scammer impersonating Keanu Reeves.

A 55-year-old woman lost 150,000 euros when she believed that the well-known American actor Keanu Reeves sent her a message on Instagram asking for money, allegedly to pay the taxes of a film he was preparing, as he himself did not have any money!

The 54-year-old believed him and deposited 150,000 euros into various accounts sent to her… allegedly by the well-known actor, reported eKriti.

In the end it turned out that it was five Nigerians and one Greek woman who scammed the 55-year-old. In fact, their properties were seized.

The Police Announcement

A case of fraud was investigated yesterday (13.01.2023) by police officers of the Heraklion Security Sub-Directorate and a case file was submitted against six people (5 foreigners and one citizen) accused of the crime of fraud.

In particular, on 21.01.2022, an unknown actor presenting himself on social media as a recognisable film actor convinced his countrymen to help him financially in paying his taxes, reaping financial benefits from the profits of a film production in which he participated in.

In this way, he managed to convince her to make bank deposits in various accounts that he indicated to her, withdrawing a total of one hundred and fifty thousand (150,000) euros.

From the thorough investigation, it was found that from June 2021 until November 2021, the perpetrators extracted partial sums of money from the country, then proceeded to split the sums into individual smaller sums and re-transfer the money to accounts belonging to the above perpetrators.

The preliminary investigation is carried out by the Security Directorate of Heraklion.
