King Charles and Prince William missed former Greek King's funeral

Princess Anne was the only senior royal to travel to Greece for the funeral.

King Charles and Prince William have been criticised after they missed the funeral of Greece's last king Constantine II on Monday. Princess Anne was the only senior royal to attend the ceremony in Athens, where monarchs from around the world gathered for the event.

A melancholic Princess Anne consoled Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece on greeting him at the funeral service as was the protocol.

Princess Anne and her husband  attended the private burial ceremony at the former Greek royal summer palace of Tatoi, where the late Queen's daughter offered her condolences to King Constantine's sons Pavlos and Prince Nikolaos of Greece.

Royals from Spain, Denmark, and other countries closely related to Constantine were there. Still, the King could not attend due to diary commitments, including meeting the President of Cyprus on Monday morning.

But the King and William have been condemned by a royal commentator, who said it is "poor form" that they have missed the funeral for other commitments.

Constantine, a distant cousin of King Charles, lived in exile after the Greek monarchy was abolished in 1974. He lived in Hampstead Garden Suburb in north London but later returned to his home country.

A total of 200 guests attended today's proceedings - including Greek shipowners and businessmen.
