A shocking case has been brought to light and is going to occupy the courtrooms of Karditsa soon. The case involves two members of well-known families in the region. The cause? You will read below.

According to the affidavit given to police by one of the eyewitnesses and a relative of the victim, the wild scene with the bloody outcome began to unfold outside a hair salon in the Dendropotamos area.

A little while earlier and according to the case file, the perpetrator allegedly sent a message to the victim on Facebook, asking him to meet to discuss buying and selling luxury cars in Athens.

"We talked for a maximum of 3 minutes and then I hear a car coming at breakneck speed and braking right in front of us," said the victim's cousin in his statement.

"The same person who had sent him a message on Facebook to talk about cars, gets out of the I.X. and hands another man present at the incident a handgun, possibly a Glock, he said. "Then the one with the gun grabs my cousin and puts it to his head and says 'don't talk, you're dead now and move on'."

Then, according to the contents of the case file and the affidavits of the eyewitnesses, another car appeared, with three people in it.

They pushed the victim into the back seat and headed to a car wash. There, the perpetrator, according to the testimony of the victim's cousin, urged him to leave while he asked for the reason, that is, to explain to him why all this is happening.

"Then the man with the gun told me that my cousin had been having an affair with his wife for eight months and that he was waiting for the right moment," said the victim's cousin in his statement.

"I tried to change his mind and not do anything because he will go to jail and he told me that he doesn't care as he has discredited him in the world and that he wants to kill him. Then he turned to him and fired once at my cousin.

"My cousin fell to the ground and started shouting 'my leg, my leg'. Other people who were inside the store whom the attacker had brought with him tried to stop him, so that he wouldn't shoot again. However, he shoots my cousin twice more while he is lying on the ground and injured.

"After that I approached my cousin and saw that he was injured in the right thigh. I put him with the help of one person in the back seat of the car and we took him to the Diavata health centre for first aid and from there he was taken by ambulance to Gennimata hospital."

The victim's statement

The victim himself described the scene of horror with chilling detail as if it was straight out of a gangster movie script.

"While the assailant was talking to me, I kept trying to get behind another person to avoid the possibility of him shooting me, but he kept telling his men to stand aside because he was going to kill me," the victim said.

"At one point when he cleared his field of vision and was about 3 metres away, he fired at me three times in a row without stopping, one shot after the other.

"After the first bullet penetrated the inner side of the right calf, I immediately fell to the ground but he fired two more shots which also found me high up in the right leg."

The victim underwent surgery to remove the bullet and, according to his testimony, believes he is miraculously alive because the other two bullets could have hit him a little higher and killed him.

What the gunman claims

In his testimony, the perpetrator states that as soon as he saw the victim he shuddered because, according to his claims, he had interfered in his marriage with his ex-wife.

"She lost her mind and left me with three small children and took them with her to Larissa and won't let me see my children," he said. "I excruciatingly suffered."

"His audacity was so great that he uploaded on Facebook photos of the woman whom he curses with obscene descriptions.

"The truth is that when I saw it, my blood rose to my head, I got confused, I looked at him irritated and he challenged me by saying: 'You know what the woman did in bed when she...'.

And he added: "I admit that I couldn't stand it and attacked him with my hands because I don't carry a weapon, nor do I own a weapon. As soon as he saw me moving towards him, he quickly took out a gun, cocked it, pointed it and went to shoot me.

"In my effort to prevent him from shooting me I lunged at him and after a struggle for control of the weapon, grabbed it and pointed it at him. It is certain that if I did not react in this way he would have killed me.

"Then holding the gun in my hands, enraged as I was, and tense by his previous provocations, I blurted out, and, impelled by the multitude of emotions which his unwarranted attack and altogether defiant behaviour had produced in me, I fired twice at him."

The lawyer of the perpetrator, Anthoulas Anasoglou, in her statement to Proto Thema, said: "My client denies the accusations after being pressed and states that the victim's injury was a random, unplanned event for which he feels profound sadness.

"However, the events that led to this unfortunate incident are far from the description given to the police by the plaintiff.

"The plaintiff came of his own accord to the city of Thessaloniki and quite by chance met my client in this particular shop.

"There were very serious differences and conflicts between them, because the plaintiff had cheated on my client's wife, as a result of which she left him and took their children with her.

"Unfortunately, they exchanged hateful looks, small talk, and lewd provocation on the part of the plaintiff derailed the situation. There was a fight and the two men started fighting.

"Nothing would have happened if the plaintiff had not illegally carried a weapon and threatened the life of my client, who defended his physical integrity, resulting in the plaintiff's leg injury."
