Thessaloniki: An Asian silver pheasant was rescued in Kalamaria

The Animal Rescue and Defence Squad received a call on Wednesday night about a female peacock that was wandering around in a stilt of an apartment building in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki.

However, when volunteers arrived at the scene, they found the animal to actually be a male silver pheasant. This species is found in forests, mainly in the mountains of Southeast Asia. The male is black and white, while the female is mostly brown.

The founder of the group, Stelios Geronymakis, told AMNA that the specific bird did not have a closed type ring on its leg and this means that it was not imported from abroad. As he said, this is an animal that was born in Greece and escaped from some breeding.

The pheasant is housed in the Zoological Garden of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
