Yanis Varoufakis to visit Cuba and meet government officials

Opposition MeRA25 leader Yanis Varoufakis will visit Cuba from 25 to 29 January at the Cuban government's invitation, a party announcement said on Tuesday.

Varoufakis will be received on Thursday, 26 January, at the Communist Party headquarters in Havana at 09:00 and at 10:30 he will meet with the Finance and Prices Minister Meisi Bolaños Weiss.

At 12:30 he will have a meeting with the president of international relations of the Communist Party of Cuba. At 15:30 is scheduled to meet Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, in the context of a visit by a delegation from the Progressive International to the country's foreign ministry.

Finally, on Thursday at 18:00, Varoufakis will have a bilateral meeting with former Finance Minister and candidate President of Ecuador, Andres Arauz, to discuss issues of internal strategy and international strategy of the Progressive International.

On Friday, Varoufakis will address the 5th International Conference for the Global Balance on the "Reasons and nature of the New Cold War" which is co-organised by the government of Cuba and the Progressive International at the Palacio des Convenciones.

"Apart from the exchange of views on the international and geopolitical conjuncture, the main issue of the discussions will be the initiative for a Progressive International that was launched with the Declaration of Athens in May 2022 and the establishment of a new non-aligned movement".

At 20:00 he will participate to the annual celebration in the memory of Jose Marti.

On Saturday, Varoufakis will be received at the National Assembly of People's Power and at 14:00 he will deliver a brief speech at the 5th International Conference for the Global Balance, which will conclude the conference.
