The first snowflakes fell in the mountainous and hill areas of Thessaloniki, with the bad weather affecting most of Greece also bringing low temperatures.
From early in the morning it started to snow in the mountains of Thessaloniki. The first flakes fell in the village of Hortiatis, but without causing any problems, with the roads remaining open for all vehicle traffic.
The Municipality of Pylaia Hortiati is ready with 12 snow removal machines and 2000 tons of salt.
"It finally snowed! Although for us this is not snow, but we hope it will intensify and lay it down in the next few hours. In the evening we poured salt and distributed sacks to the residents in Hortiati, Exohi and Filiro," said Vivian Lioliou, Deputy Mayor of Cleanliness of the municipality of Pylaia Hortiati.
Weak snowfall occurred in the area of Filyros as well as in Asvestochori.
Elsewhere, the heavy rainfall and stormy winds that hit Zakynthos caused widespread problems throughout the island.
Crews from the Regional Unit of Zakynthos and the Municipality have been on the streets since early on Thursday morning, while the Fire Department of Zakynthos throughout the night received dozens of calls, while in some cases a rescue operation had to be carried out from houses that had been flooded.
Also, the huge amount of rain that fell on Zakynthos turned the roads into rivers, making them inaccessible for cars.
