RHODES: Earthquake reached 5.9 Richter, Geodynamics Institute says

The Geodynamics Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, on behalf of the four agencies making up the Unified National Seismological Network, announced on Wednesday that an earthquake off the coast of Rhodes measured 5.9 on the Richter scale, instead of 5.7 as initially announced.

The quake's epicentre was located 58 km southeast of the town of Lindos, Rhodes, and 498 km east-southeast of Athens.

The earthquake recorded at 14:37 in the sea southeast of Lindos on Rhodes raised concern among the residents but no damages have been reported so far.

The 5.9 Richter quake was strongly felt on Rhodes and in other islands of the Dodecanese.
