Greek cinema to conquer international festivals: The good news from the Greek Film Centre

By 1 year ago

Greek cinema continues to be recognised, albeit slowly, abroad. After receiving three nominations for this year's Oscars for the feature film "Triangle of Sadness" - which, although directed by the Swede Ruben Östlund, is a Greek co-production, with filming in Greece - three Greek short productions are preparing to conquer the international festivals.

As announced by the Greek Cinema Centre in a new post on Facebook, these are the films "Ohi Avrio" (Not tomorrow) by Amerissa Basta, "11.20 am" by Dimitris Nakos and "Paparounes and Papies" (Poppies and Ducks) by Christina Kallirroi Garbi.

The post reads:

"2023 started with good news for the Greek short film and its creators. Its participation in the programs of the Clermont-Ferrand festival (the "Cannes" of micro-bakers) is important, its presence in other festivals is also in important European countries. Specifically:

"-The film Ohi Avrio by Amerissa Basta will be screened tomorrow, 27/1, in the competition program of the Trieste Festival, claiming an award. It is a production by Ioanna Sultanis (Soul Productions) that has been financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Greek Cypriot Association, within the framework of the Special Program Covid-19.

"The film 11.20 am by Dimitris Nakos has been selected to be screened in the competition program of the London Short Film Festival . It is a production of Thanos Anastopoulos (Fantasia Ltd) which has also been financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Greek Cypriot Association, within the framework of the Special Program Covid-19.

"The film Paparounes and Papies by Christina-Kallirroi Garbi premiered yesterday, 25/1, in the competition program of the Trieste Festival, claiming an award. It is a production by Romanna Lobach that has been financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Greek Cypriot Association, within the framework of the Special Program Covid-19.
