Turkish media targets Mitsotakis and Floros: "Greece is preparing for war"

Turkish media have taken aim at Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the head of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA) Konstantinos Floros, accusing Greece of arming itself because it is preparing for war.

Indicative of the current climate is what was broadcasted on the pro-government network Haber Global. The journalist of the central news bulletin accused the GEETHA chief of "provocative" statements and "war threats" against Turkey.

"The tension on the Ankara-Athens line is at an all-time high. We will see the statements of the head of the Greek Armed Forces as the tension does not seem to decrease. Konstantinos Floros sent provocative messages to Turkey, he actually expressed threats of war," the Turkish presenter asserted.

"He stated that they are ready to face any external intervention and emphasised that 'in the ethers in the seas and on land the supremacy is ours'," added the presenter.

In the report that followed, shots were also directed at Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accusing him of opposing the supply of F-16s from Turkey, recalling his speech to the US Congress last May.

At the same time, claims were made for the purchase of Rafale and frigates from France, claiming - in an attempt to reverse reality - that Greece is preparing for... war against Turkey.

"Greece, which has entered an arms race against Turkey, has turned its attention to Congress because the Mitsotakis government does not want the sale of F-16s to Turkey," said the Haber Global report.

"Greece is arming itself at levels that seem to be preparing for war. And now from the USA it is claiming the F-35 fighters, while it has been buying Rafale fighters and frigates from France."
