Snowfall in Epirus - Traffic ban for trucks and vans

The Epirus Police decided to temporarily stop traffic for trucks over 3.5 tons and for buses from 08:00 until further notice in a large section of Egnatia Odos due to the heavy snowfall. This is the section from the Ioannina junction to the Panagia junction, after the Malakasi toll.

Cars must be driven with anti-skid chains.

The heavy snowfall started from 05:00 in all the highlands of Epirus, Konitsa, Zagori, Metsovo and Tzoumerka. By decision of the mayor of Metsovo, all schools in the municipality will remain closed today.

20 snow removal machines and salt machines operate throughout the road network.

Frost was observed in several areas mainly of the mainland in the morning hours today, both in the North and in the South, with the mercury dropping to -4.3 degrees Celsius at the weather station in Terovo, Ioannina.

The next lowest minimum temperatures, according to the network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens/METEO, were recorded in Seli (-3.9), Tripoli (-3.9), Boutyros Kaprenissiou (-3.8) and Vytina Arcadia (-3.5 points).
