An 82-year-old Greek Australian grandmother arrested over a massive cocaine bust at her Flinders Park home

Evdocia “Effie” Phelivanidis is one of the oldest Australians charged with drug trafficking, but she says she’s never used drugs.

They allege the pair tried to import 8kg of the drug but did not elaborate or provide any further details of the alleged offence.

They were both released on bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 12 April.

Detective Superintendent Billy Thompson, Officer in Charge of Serious and Organised Crime Branch, said, “This is another example of the unwavering determination of Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives to stop the flow of dangerous illicit drugs into South Australia. This amount of cocaine, with a street value of about $ 3.2 million, could have caused enormous harm to our community.”
