Well-known actor and director Petros Philippidis was sentenced to 8 years in jail on remand over two charges of attempted rape by an Athens Mixed Jury Court on Wednesday.

He was unanimously acquitted for serial rape of a single person. The court rejected mitigating circumstances, and released him pending an appeal.

The court imposed a ban on him for leaving the country and an obligation to appear before police in his neighborhood at regular intervals.

The court found he was not likely to flee or a danger to society, the crimes took place in theater and television, which are no longer friendly towards him, and he himself has said that he does not wish to show up in those places again.
