George Prokopiou has the most expensive ship in the Greek-owned fleet – It cost $286 million!

The ValueVessels survey of Greek-owned shipping contains interesting statistics, and even mentioned billionaire George Prokopiou.

The Greek fleet ranks third worldwide. This is true for both the number of ships and the total value, which includes 4,709 ships active and on order and a total value of US$152.69 billion.

The most valuable Greek-owned commercial ship is the LNG Carrier "Clean Copano" which was delivered last summer, more specifically in July 2022, with a carrying capacity of 199,830 cubic metres. It was built at the Hyundai Heavy Ind yards.

This large liquefied natural gas carrier, owned by Dynagas, is valued at US$286.11 million.

In the field of coastal shipping, the most valuable ship is the Blue Star Patmos, owned by Blue Star Ferries of the Attica Group. It has a total capacity of 18,498 gross tonnage and was built in June 2012 at the Daewoo shipyards. Its value is US$63.28 million.

Bulkers are the most popular vessels in the Greek fleet, with a total of 2,272 vessels, followed by tankers with 1,450 vessels and Containers with 430 vessels. Tankers are the most valuable sector for Greece, worth $61.03 billion.

Dynagas was founded by Greek billionaire George Prokopiou. He was born in 1946 and is married to Alexandra, with whom he has four children.
