04Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou spoke on the phone with the Patriarch of Antioch John I and expressed Greece's support in the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit the regions of Southeastern Turkey and North Syria, which are within the Patriarchate of Antioch jurisdiction.

Sakellaropoulou noted on Friday that Greece will continue to support the quake-stricken people of the region in every possible way.

On his part, the Patriarch of Antioch thanked Sakellaropoulou for her solidarity and briefed her on the situation that exists in the quake-stricken areas.

Antiochian Greek rescue teams have been deployed to the frontline in Aleppo after the earthquake struck the city, Greco-Levantines World Wide reported.

"The Antiochian Greek community has always been the first to respond to humanitarian crisis," said GLWW.

"Antiochian Greek volunteer from GOPA-DERD (Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch- Department of Ecumenical Relations) in Aleppo while helping with the rescue operations," it added.
