Qatargate: Francesco Giorgi, Eva Kaili's Partner, Freed from Jail with Electronic Tag

Belgian prosecutors have released Francesco Giorgi from prison with restrictive conditions.

Francesco Giorgi, Greek MEP Eva Kaili's partner, who was arrested on December 9 in relation to the Qatargate case, has been released from prison with an electronic bracelet, according to an announcement by the Federal Prosecutor's Office.

According to a press release made by the Federal Prosecutor’s office, "in the context of a wide-ranging investigation by the Federal Prosecutor's Office and the Federal Police into alleged acts of organised crime, corruption and money laundering, a person appeared today before the Brussels Pre-Trial Chamber.

“The council today confirmed FT's preventive detention but under conditions, electronic bracelet.  If he appeals the decision, he will appear before the appeals court within fifteen days. The Federal Prosecutor's Office will not appeal the decision."

The new hearing

Francesco Giorgi's new hearing before the Belgian authorities ended at noon on Thursday.

Questions are raised by the fact that the partner of Eva Kaili and the alleged mastermind of Qatar Gate, Antonio Pancheri, were in the same cell for a few days.

It is recalled that Pancheri has made an agreement with the authorities to provide information in exchange for a reduction of his sentence.

His lawyer did not want to make any statements before his client's hearing.
