The traditional lagana could not be missing from the Lenten table on Clean Monday. A baker from Chania made sure to leaven a giant lagana - 70 kg, 4.20 metres long and 180 centimetres high!

Speaking to Zarpa News, the owner of the business, Haris Dimitrolakis, emphasised that it took three whole hours to prepare it.

“This is the 26th year we've done this. Some have stopped it, we haven't. The lagana was baked on two levels of the oven and the whole process lasted three hours. As for the price of lagana this year, it is sold from 3-3.5 euros and up to 4 euros," he said.

The giant lagana, weighing 70kg, was prepared with 50kg of flour and 28 litres of water.

The delicious traditional bread, which is thinner and wider than other breads and is the staple of the Lenten table, symbolises the beginning of Lent.
