Train collision: The student and only survivor of the first carriage is fighting a tough battle to stay alive

Gerasimos-Iason Georgiadis, who remains in the ICU in a critical condition, is fighting a hard battle to stay alive after the train collision in Tempi.

The 20-year-old student was the only passenger in the first carriage to not die. On impact, he was thrown from the window and escaped the explosion and fire, Proto Thema reported.

However, the fall to the ground caused serious head injuries. He has already undergone two surgeries, with the doctors not giving up their titanic efforts to save him.

The 20-year-old boarded the train in Larissa bound for Thessaloniki as he is studying mechanical engineering at AUTH.

At the time of the collision, the 20-year-old was with other students in the burnt canteen carriage, which turned into an amorphous mass of ironwork. He was thrown into the fields, where rescuers found him unconscious.

He was immediately taken to the hospital with head injuries and the doctors put him into surgery, giving a titanic fight. He underwent two head surgeries and is intubated.

Doctors say that his condition is critical.
