Greek Australian dentist cosmetic dentist William Zafiropoulos was recently savagely attacked in his practice in the Sydney suburb of Miranda by two men who used hammers to beat him to a pulp, according to a news report by The Sydney Morning Herald.

According to the news report, Zafiropoulos, 54, was set upon him hammers in his Smiles Miranda practice at about 9.15am on February 24 by two well dressed men, leaving him with multiple fractures in his clinic.

Detective Acting Superintendent Richard Puffett, the acting commander of the Raptor Squad, told reporters on Wednesday the attack on Zafiropoulos was “savage to the extreme” and that while the dentist was in a stable condition after surgery for head and arm injuries, “it will be a long recovery”.

The dentist is cooperating with police and “providing as much information as he can”, Puffett said.

Zafiropoulos is “not overly” known to police, Puffett said. However, he has links to the notorious Ibrahim family. In 2021, he was ordered by the NSW Supreme Court to repay $7.8 million in “spotter’s fees” he received from developer Fouad (Fred) Deiri of Deicorp, most of which went to Fadi Ibrahim’s business partner, pawnbroking entrepreneur Ben Scott.

There is no suggestion that Ibrahim, Deiri or Scott are in any way linked to the assault or attempted arson.
