A family drama was revealed by the hasty admission of a 38-year-old woman to the General University Hospital of Larissa. The woman claimed that she did not know that she was pregnant.

According to the “Eleftheria” newspaper, after severe pain and bleeding, the 38-year-old woman was initially transferred to a Health Centre and then rushed to the General University Hospital of Larissa.

Doctors in the Emergency Department determined that the bleeding was from childbirth and that the 38-year-old woman was at risk due to the septic condition she had developed. Thus, they decided to admit her to the Intensive Care Unit where she remains hospitalised in a serious condition.

Police officers of the Larissa Security Sub-Directorate investigating the case confirmed the doctors’ diagnosis that she had given birth before, as it turned out later, on the initiative of the relatives of the 38-year-old woman, they proceeded to bury the newborn who was born dead.

With a prosecutor’s order, police officers from the Sub-Directorate of Security went to a rural area of the prefecture, where the relatives of the 38-year-old woman had buried the infant and yesterday afternoon they proceeded with the exhumation.

According to Proto Thema, the relatives unequivocally note that the newborn was stillborn, while the 38-year-old woman, during her examination by the doctors, claimed that she was unaware that she was pregnant.

As part of the investigation into the case, the Security Sub-Directorate ordered a forensic examination to determine the cause of the infant’s death while the relatives were expected to be called to testify, in order, among other things, to answer the question of why they proceeded to bury the newborn in secret.
