Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu announced after their meeting today in Brussels that Turkey will support Greece’s candidacy to the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member.

Greece, for its part, will support the Turkish candidacy as secretary general of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

In their conversation, held on the sidelines of the International Donors Conference for earthquake-stricken Syria and Turkey, the foreign ministers of Greece and Turkey focused on the fact that the atmosphere between the two countries has changed after the recent phone calls of support for the tragedies they experienced.

Thus, Dendias once again thanked Çavuşoğlu for the phone call after the accident in Tempi, while the Turkish foreign minister, for his part, expressed his gratitude to his Greek counterpart, both for the phone call and for his visit to earthquake victims regions of Turkey.

“I held a constructive meeting with Türkiye Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Brussels. Following the meeting, we walked and entered together the hall of the International Donors’ Conference in support of the people in Türkiye & Syria, which takes place today,” Dendias wrote on Twitter.
