Tony was asked on the latest Food Bytes podcast what his old alter-ego is up to these days.
“People ring up and occasionally ask to speak to him overnight, which is always fun to do.”
“But in terms of appearances – I can’t remember the last one. I think I did it for a mate’s 60th.”
Tony confirmed there are no plans for a Guido revival anytime soon.
“There’s been the occasional popping up here and there. But I’m very happy to leave the wig and the tracksuit in the bottom drawer.”
“Every time I look at the wig, I’m reminded of the girl I was dating when I did a lot of Guido appearances, and the question she was asked most often was ‘Does he wear the wig when … ??’”
The pair created two ARIA-winning albums featuring Guido’s outrageous prank calls, Do Not Talk Over Me (1999) and Whatever (2000).
The character still has a massive following, with Guido’s YouTube channel attracting thousands of subscribers.
One of Guido’s classic prank calls, in which the cocky ‘Adonis’ answers a wanted ad for a plumber, has attracted 1.2 million views since it was first posted nine years ago.
