Sydney Consular reception honours Greek Independence Day

The Consulate General of Greece in Sydney, Australia hosted a reception in honour of Greek Independence Day at the Great Hall of Sydney University, yesterday March 27, joining cities around the world where diaspora communities and diplomatic missions celebrated our National Day.

Consul General of Greece in Sydney Mr Ioannis Mallikourtis welcomed the over 200 guests in attendance which included her Excellency The Governor of New South Wales, Margaret Beazley, the President of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, Mr Harry Danalis, Parliamentarians Sophie Cotsis and Courtney Houssos, community and industry leaders, representatives of the arts and education sectors among others while keynote speaker was Professor Vrasidas Karalis.

The Australian Hellenic Choir

Performing the national anthems of Greece and Australia was the Australian Hellenic Choir headed by Choirmaster/President Mr Jim Tsolakis, and conduced by Mr Leon Vitogiannis.

"A heartfelt thank you to all our friends attending tonight’s reception hosted by the Consulate General of Greece, Sydney on the occasion of Greek Independence Day - Greatly honored by the presence of H.E. The Governor of New South Wales, Margaret Beazley." wrote Mr Mallikourtis on social media.

Guests were greeted by Greek Australian youth dressed in traditional folk costumes while Consular staff managed the logistics of what was a very successful event.
