The first modern Flight Simulator and Crew Training Centre in Greece was announced on Thursday following an agreement between AEGEAN and CAE, the world's leading company in the field of aviation training for pilots and cabin crew, for a joint venture.

The two companies are combining their forces to establish the most advanced and "green" flight simulator and crew training centre in SE Europe.

The AEGEAN - CAE training centre, with a capacity of up to seven full flight simulators ,will be part of AEGEAN's new technical base with a total area of 85,000 m2 that will be created at Athens International Airport.

It is expected to be operational by the end of 2023 and will be the most technologically improved and advanced aviation training hub in Southeast Europe.

In the first stage of development, the training centre will have four flight simulators, including two Airbus A320neo, one Boeing 737NG and one ATR 72-600, as well as cabin crew training equipment, while it foresees the installation of three additional simulators.

At full development, the centre will be able to train up to 3,500 pilots a year (42,000 training hours) and many times that number of cabin crew.

Mr. Dimitris Gerogiannis, CEO of AEGEAN, Mr. Nick Leontidis, Group President, Civil Aviation of CAE and Mr. Eutychios Vassilakis, President of AEGEAN.

Nick Leontidis, CAE's Group President, Civil Aviation noted: “We are extremely pleased to be working with AEGEAN to create the most advanced aviation training center in Southeast Europe and to expand our network of centers around the world."

"With AEGEAN we share the same values and look forward to joining forces to further develop the aviation workforce by offering the most thorough, quality and upgraded training experience for pilots and cabin crew.

"As an integral part of the new, modern ecosystem for air transport in Greece, which is being created at the initiative of AEGEAN, we look forward both to a successful cooperation with the company and its people, and to the development of air transport in the region as a whole."

AEGEAN's managing director Dimitris Gerogiannis said that the creation of the new training centre of AEGEAN and CAE aims to make Greece a centre for producing pilots and engineers.

"From the beginning of our operation, AEGEAN's vision has been to create value for the industry and our country, which is why the creation of our new joint training center enables both our people and third party crews companies, to develop skills and develop their capabilities," he said, reported Travel.

"With this agreement, AEGEAN and CAE join forces, know-how, but also our common values, to create the most modern and comprehensive pilot and cabin crew training center in Southeast Europe.

"An investment that offers unlimited possibilities to our people, while expanding the development prospects for the aviation industry, but also for the country as a whole."

It is part of AEGEAN's total investment of 140 million euros to create a modern aviation ecosystem in Greece, announced late last year, while further expanding CAE's already significant global network of training centres.
