16 MW photovoltaic arrays
It is the largest division in Greece and already today produces and covers approximately 45% of the airport’s annual consumption. The facility’s green energy generation is 27,500 megawatt-hours per year, which roughly corresponds to the consumption of 6,650 households.
By 2046, the operation of the new facility with a capacity of 16 megawatts will reduce harmful emissions. To generate this amount of electricity would require burning 71,500 tons of coal (equivalent to an airport-sized forest area, 16,000 hectares).
The project is part of Athens International Airport’s dynamic sustainability and environmental responsibility strategy. In particular, the total investment in the Route 2025 program will be about 100 million euros, which the company announced in 2019.
