Dimitris' Greece by Drone

Now, just four years later, the talented photographer and certified drone pilot is stunning audiences with amazing aerial perspectives of Greece's beautiful landscapes, historic sites, and picturesque towns and villages, captured through his beautiful photography and videography.

Dimitris Tzankatian’s love affair with travel began in 2019 when he bought his first drone. Now, just four years later, the talented photographer and certified drone pilot is working in collaboration with many businesses across a variety of industries including advertising agencies, hotels, yachting companies.

At 35 years of age Dimitris has journeyed through many destinations including Bali, Phuket, Turkey, Austria, Italy, Iceland as well as his homeland of Greece, capturing stunning aerial perspectives of the countries’ beautiful landscapes, historic sites, and picturesque towns and villages, through his beautiful photography and videography.

“I love to capture the beauty of the nature despite cities,” Dimitris tells Greek City Times.

Born and raised in Palaio Faliro, Athens in Greece, after finishing high school Dimitris attended technological school at the age of 19 to study to become a computer technician. From there, he entered into the army, whilst at the same time worked as a freelance computer technician, building his own computer services company.

The discovery of drones through an internet advertisement, says Dimitris, totally changed the way he looked the world plus much more.

“From the moment that I bought my first drone my life changed for the better,” he says. “Firstly because it gave me the opportunity to travel outside Athens; and secondly as it brought me the opportunity to meet people who were excited to see my work with it".

“My work started to be recognised since I started travelling in Greece first before branching out to travel and work in Europe and abroad.  I gained a lot of followers because a lot of people had seen my videos that I posted on my Instagram page. Many clients approached me through Instagram to work together.”

Growing up, Dimitris didn’t always have ambitions to work in photography.

“My childhood was little bit different to now, because I never had any thoughts about becoming a photographer,” recalls Dimitris, “but I remember since I was a child I always wanted to travel all over the world and discover our beautiful planet.  And I always felt in my heart that I wanted to use my creativity to build something new and to be a part of this.”

Dimitris tells us that these days he usually travels at least four times a year in between his work commitments, saying; “When I have the opportunity I grab my bags and goooo!”

“If I had the opportunity to travel around the world full-time I would take it 100%,” he says.

“Drone photography is my full time job now and I continue to love it more and more. I have lost count of how many videos I have created for my clients.”

When it comes to capturing beautiful drone photography in Greece, there are many places that are worth exploring. Some popular spots for aerial photography include the Santorini caldera, the beaches of Mykonos, the Acropolis in Athens, and the Meteora monasteries in central Greece. There are also many stunning islands and coastal towns that offer fantastic views from above.

“I think that the Greek beaches and the Greek islands are among the most photogenic places to take photos,” says Dimitris. “Also in Athens there are many places such as Monastiraki, Anafiotika, Thisio and many more to capture beautiful photos.”

“I hope to one day have my own travel series on TV,” says Dimitris, when asked about how he sees his future.

“And secondly to work for National Geographic - a big dream I know, but I hope someday to work for them.

“I don’t have many specific or complicated plans, but my overall goal is simply to become a famous and internationally recognised photographer - starting from Greece and then to all the world.”

And judging by his creative eye for capturing compelling images and videos, it would seem that this is an aspiration that Dimitris is well on the way to achieving.
