Michel Dimopoulos, who had been director of the Thessaloniki Film Festival for a number of years, has sadly passed away, Proto Thema reported.

Michalis (Michel) Dimopoulos studied cinema in France and began his career as a film critic in “Avgi” and “Synchronos Kinematografos” magazine in the 70s.

He collaborated with various publishing houses and made a substantial contribution to the Greek film landscape, when he took over as artistic director of the Thessaloniki Film Festival (1992-2004), which he managed to make international with significant claims.

Dimopoulos worked harmoniously with Greek and foreign film bodies, journalists, filmmakers and big names of art.

Farewell to the Festival:

“Michel will always be here. In Olympia and at the port, on the big screens and in the streets of Thessaloniki, in conversations, in books and magazines.

“He will be alive, straightforward, laughing, fair and always ready to revisit and show us the wonderful films he loved, to make us discover new and restless cinema at every step.”

Michel Dimopoulos is known for Attenberg (2010), Mare Nostrum (2020) and The Vest (1976).
