Anna Polyviou and her mum are hosting a Hellenic High Tea at The Langham

They'll be making all your favourite Greek treats from spanakopita to loukoumades and Greek coffee-spiked macarons.

American Express delicious. Month Out is fast approaching, and with it, an afternoon event hosted by one of the nation’s biggest dessert sensations.

On Sunday May 7, The Langham, Sydney will throw a special Hellenic High Tea, dreamt up by award-winning pastry chef Anna Polyviou. But it won’t just be Anna and her talented team on duty that day, they’ll also be joined by a special guest – Anna’s mum, Eugina Polyviou.

The day’s feast is a concoction of savoury and sweet high tea treats which embrace the flavours of Greece, and Anna’s proudly Greek heritage. The expansive menu of small bites reflects the warmth of family cooking and baking at its best, made extra memorable thanks to the involvement of Anna’s mum, who shares a love of cooking and baking.

Everything is to be made in-house and by hand, with the mother-daughter duo taking full advantage of the open-air cooking stations in the dining space. Eugina will show guests how to make fresh haloumi, the slow-cooked lamb will be roasted on the in-house rotisserie, and spanakopita will be rolled and baked fresh.

“With this menu you will experience the best of both worlds of Hellenic cuisine, sweet and savoury, with the Anna Polyviou touch,” Polyviou says.

More dishes from the day will include the likes of tarama tart, crab with salmon roe, and the classic keftedes roll. Not to mention the lamb pita that follows, alongside tzatziki with pickled cucumber, and spanakopita pie among much more. It’s safe to say, guests won’t be leaving hungry.

Anna continues of the planned menu; “You will find fresh taramasalata made by my mum, koupes made from the old family recipe and spanakopita with the fresh pastry stretched so thin, packed with flavour.”

Considering Anna’s specialty is desserts, the day’s sweet options will be in no short supply. Among them an indulgent semolina custard-based galaktoboureko tart, and a creamy rice pudding topped with salted caramel sauce and cinnamon loukoumades, joined by macarons flavoured with Greek coffee.

It wouldn’t be a Greek feast without some music. Anna and the team at The Langham have organised a full Greek band, Ήχος της νύχτας’ also known as ‘Sound of the Night’, to play live music for the event. Did we hear you say opa?
