After a seven month investigation, five foreigners from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Syria were arrested for the attempted fraud, which had been prevented literally at the last moment, of the head of the Holy Monastery of Giromeri in Thesprotia.
The manager of the Holy Monastery of Giromeri received a phone call in September 2022 from an unknown person, who had claimed that he wanted to make a donation to the monastery and asked him for e-banking codes, allegedly to deposit the money.
But instead of depositing, he transferred 1,500 euros from his account to another. Fortunately for the near-victim, he was immediately aware of the attempt and notified his bank, which canceled the transaction.
The details of the five foreigners were identified from the months-long preliminary investigation carried out by the police officers of the Filiaton department.
According to Proto Thema, a case file was filed against them for attempted computer fraud with complicity, which was forwarded to the public prosecutor of Plimmeliodiki, Thesprotia.
