Kyriaki Filtisakou: Greek walker hit by a car just weeks before European Championship

A car hit Kyriaki Filtisakou during a training session on Tuesday in Astros, Kynourias. The athlete was hospitalised at Tripoli hospital, where she will remain for a general check-up and follow-up.

Filtisakou has no major knocks, but a CT scan will show the severity of her shoulder and back problems, Proto Thema reported. The driver of the car lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the athlete in a central part of the city.

Her coach who was with her, as well as those who were in front of the incident, immediately mobilised. The athlete was initially transferred to the Astros health centre and from there to the Tripoli hospital.

"Thankfully she is fine, however now the shoulder and back knocks will have to be assessed to see how long she will be out of training," her coach, Napoleon Kefalopoulos, said.

"In the next 24 hours it will be seen if she will be able to make the race in the Czech Republic (including the European team walking championship). The three weeks left before the race are few and I don't know if they are enough for her to recover," the coach added.
