The good old days when Earth was united as one!
Pangea was a supercontinent during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras, approximately 335-175 million years ago. It is believed to have been formed by the collision of several smaller continents, including what are now North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia.
The name "Pangea" comes from the Greek words "pan" (meaning "all" or "entire") and "gea" (meaning "earth"). The concept of Pangea was first proposed by the German geologist and meteorologist Alfred Wegener in 1912, who observed similarities in the geological structures, rock types, and fossils of different continents, suggesting they had once been joined together. However, it was not until the mid-20th century that the theory of plate tectonics was developed, providing a scientific explanation for the movement of the Earth's continents over time, including the formation and breakup of Pangea.
