15,000-euro fine for Hydra man who threw kitten from an eight-meter ledge

Kitten Cruelty

A 58-year-old man from the island of Hydra was sent to an investigative magistrate on Monday after he threw a kitten from an eight-meter ledge the day before.

There, he was fined 15,000 euros. The man rejects that he meant to harm the animal and claims that the cat lost its balance after he pushed it.

“The animal-abuse perpetrator was particularly sarcastic to any eyewitnesses who confronted him after the event,” said state broadcaster ERT.

The restaurant owner where the incident happened was the one who called the police.

They immediately arrested him and took him to the department. A few hours later, they called the lady of the store who made the complaint for a supplementary statement in which, according to the information, she confirmed that the animal returned, in bad condition and with facial injuries, as seen in the photo presented protothema. gr.

As typically stated in an ELAS (Greek Police) information note:

"For the activities that took place at 18:05 on April 30, 2023, in Hydra Attica, it is reported that according to the complainant's supplementary statement, the injured four-legged animal was located and appeared to be in good health. Following this, the competent Prosecutor for Animal Protection of the Piraeus District Court, Mr Margaritis Kotsimbas, was informed, and the accused was imposed an administrative fine of 15,000 euros per Article 24 paragraph 1A of Law 4830/201".
